Who we are???

We are Jornadistas apart of  Zone 3.  We work in the Bushwick, Bedsty, Williamsburg, and Ridgewood area of New York.

The mission of the Jornadas de Vida Cristiana Movement is to evangelize youth by means of other youths, which is conducted by reaching out to youth and placing them in an environment of personal and spiritual renewal, by living a Jornada and continuing a process of growth and maturity in the faith.

We are called "Jornadistas" the Hispanic catholics that belong to the youth movement "JORNADAS DE VIDA CRISTIANA". We live and work in the metropolitan area of New York, above all in the Diocese of Brooklyn and New York, We were born 37 years ago through the inspiration of the Vincentian Fathers under the real inspiration of the missionaries of the Province of Barcelona (Spain), who have been working in this area since 1916. It was Fathers Biosca and Amengual, with the help of the Cursillos de Cristiandad Movement of Brooklyn and the parish of Monserrate (Bedford-Stuyvesant), who initiated in what is today recognized as Jornadas de Vida Cristiana of Brooklyn. Practically from the beginning the Diocese of Brooklyn has accompanied us and with its support it has become a place for evangelizing work in favor of the youth. Without its help and without the direction of its bishops, the Movement would not be what it really is. That is what has marked, from the beginning, the characteristics of the Jornada in Brooklyn. On one side, the vincentian inspiration and its evangelizing initiative; on the other for the help and relationship with the Cursillo Movement of the Brooklyn Diocese.

What's a J?: A "J" (Jornadista) is a person or member of a Jornada group that has experienced a spiritual retreat where the word Jornada (Journey) and it's meaning are explained and clarified.
Throughout the course of this retreat a person experiences a new definition of what it means to be a Jornadista. The retreat is a step in fulfilling our goal and purpose as a young Christian movement.

A Jornadista is a disciple, messenger, teacher, follower, soldier, vessel, instrument and a source in which the Catholic church relies on to communicate and spread the teachings of our lord Jesus Christ. We are here to share this knowledge to the youth that does not understand, or knows about the message, love, and mercy Jesus left us. It is in our Jornada (Journey) that we can accomplish these goals.

What's a Pre J?: A "Pre-J" (Pre-Jornadista) is a person or member of a Jornada group that has not lived or experienced a Jornada retreat. Although they have not lived this retreat, Pre-Js are extremely necessary and are the most important members of a Jornada group and the movement.
Why are they so important?
They are the foundation of this movement, without them, this movement would not exist today. All Js were once Pre-Js; nobody has entered the movement already existing as J with out living the Jornada retreat. Pre-Js are necessary because they are the future in fulfilling and continuing to spread the message Jesus left us throughout our communities and generations to come.

What's a Jornada?: Jornada is a word for Journey in Spanish. It is also a spiritual retreat where the word Jornada (Journey) and it's meaning to a young Christian movement called "La Jornada de Vida Cristiana" (The Journey of a Christian life) are explained and clarified.
Throughout the course of this retreat a person (Pre-J.) experiences a new definition of what it means to be a Jornadista. During the retreat a person can get more in touch with their religion and learn more about the obstacles a young person goes through in life. A person can also gain tools to help guide, and maybe overcome, the challenges that are set in their everyday lives.

This retreat is a step in fulfilling our goal and purpose as a young Christian movement. The goal and purpose is to share the knowledge Jesus left us to the youth that does not understand, or has not found, the message, love, and mercy of Jesus Christ.
